Police operation continues for escaped prisoner
New Zealand Police are asking members of the public for any information regarding 48 year old Lex Miller who escaped from Tongariro - Rangipö prison (near Turangi) at about 2.15pm yesterday afternoon, Thursday 25 August 2011.
MILLER is believed to be driving a 1994 Silver Toyota Camry Sedan, with the registration TC7281. Please see attached photo of a similar make and model – please note the colour of the car we are seeking is silver, not white as depicted.
MILLER is European, aged 48 years and is approximately 173cm tall (5foot8). The attached photograph was taken in 2008 but is still considered to be a good likeness. His hair is sandy brown and similar to that in the photo, although it may be slightly shorter. He is described as a medium, fit/wiry build. He was last seen wearing a tan coloured shirt, blue jeans and white sports shoes, however, he may have changed clothes since then.
The officer in charge of the operation, Detective Senior Sergeant Todd Pearce from Taupo Police, says MILLER has family connections to the Eastern Bay of Plenty Area, particularly Whakatäne, but he could be anywhere at this stage.
Detective Senior Sergeant Pearce says officers are liaising with people in the Turangi area and talking to acquaintances and family members to try and gain as much information as possible about MILLER's potential movements.
"If anyone has any information about MILLER or the car that he was driving yesterday afternoon, please call us immediately on 111 or contact any local Police Station. People can also provide information anonymously if necessary via the independent Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111."
Detective Senior Sergeant Pearce says MILLER should not be approached.
"If you see him or his car, please call 111 immediately."
