Variety Mini Bash Helping Kids From South Auckland to Rotorua
The Variety Mini Bash 2011 is travelling from South Auckland to Rotorua from 2-4 September, and Kiwis are encouraged to come out and show their support as it passes through their town.
The Mini Bash is a quirky car rally of around 25 crazy trucks and cars, which travels over 500 km fundraising for Kiwi kids, distributing grants, entertaining children, participating in community projects and telling the Variety story.
Along the way, Variety – The Children’s Charity will distribute $11,500 to Kiwi kids in need, giving an insulin pump to a young girl in Rotorua with diabetes to free her from daily injections, a specialised trike to an Auckland boy with physical challenges, sports equipment to schools and funding for activities, outings and educational resources to Hamilton organisations that help children who have been through difficult circumstances.
“Those that have seen the Variety Bash before describe it as a mad-cap adventure full of eccentric vehicles, larger-than-life characters and heart-felt philanthropy,” says Lorraine Taylor, CEO, Variety – The Children’s Charity. “The Variety Mini Bash is a three-day version of the Variety Bash and it’s just as exciting. This year’s Mini Bash is all about inclusivity – encouraging Kiwi kids of all abilities to get together and giving each of them the opportunity to reach their potential.”
The Variety Mini Bash 2011 is travelling from Mangere South to Cambridge, via Morrinsville, Matamata, Rotorua and Mamaku.

| Friday, 2 September | ||
| 7.30am – 9.15am | Butterfly Creek | The official Mini Bash launch takes place with a fun-filled morning for children from the Pakuranga Health Camp. |
| 3.00pm | Matamata | Keep an eye out for the Mini Bash vehicles as they pass through town and throw a gold coin in the bucket for Variety. |
| Saturday, 3 September | ||
| 8.00am – 9.00am | McDonald’s Fairy Springs Road, Rotorua | Come and see the Mini Bash
vehicles. |
| 11.30am – 12.30pm | The Landing, Lake Tawarewa | The Mini Bash vehicles will be parked at the lake. |
| 3.30pm – 4.30pm | Ngongataha Rail Park | Bring the children along to see the Mini Bash vehicles and meet the Bashers. Plus watch a Ronald McDonald show, have a kick about on the McDonald’s soccer pitch and ride the train for $2. |
| Sunday, 4 September
| ||
| 9.00am – 9.30am | Skyline Rotorua | See the Mini Bash vehicles as the Bash teams ride the luge. |
| 10.30am – 12.30pm | Rotorua Markets | Some Mini Bash teams will visit the markets, while others take part in a community project in Mamaku. There will also be a chance to play soccer on the McDonald’s soccer pitch. |
| 1.20pm – 1.30pm | Cambridge | Keep an eye out for the Mini Bash vehicles as they come into Cambridge. |
