Wellington Police seek witnesses to late night attack
Police are continuing to investigate an incident late last night where a 27 year old woman was attacked along a public walkway in Mount Cook.
Detective Sergeant Mark Scott of the Wellington CIB says just after 10pm, the woman was walking along a public pathway near the intersection of Rugby and Tasman Streets, which borders Wellington High School and Massey University, where she was attacked by a male from behind.
"The victim was then dragged a short distance, with her mouth covered, but managed to fight back and punch the offender. He then ran off."
Detective Sergeant Scott is urging any member of the public who may have heard or seen anything suspicious in this area last night to contact Police.
The offender was described as a male Caucasian of medium height and build with light coloured, but not blonde hair. He was aged between 25 and 35 years.
"If anyone saw a male fitting this description running off from the scene, we'd like to hear from you too. The offender may also have some kind of injury to his face as a result of the victim fighting him off. This was a really scary attack which has left the victim shaken."
Police enquiries are continuing.
Anyone with any information should phone Wellington CIB on (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
