Wellingtonians: dress up the region for the Cup!
Wellington residents are being urged to show their support for Rugby World Cup 2011 – and their famed creativity – by
dressing up anything and everything in the region. The Dress Up Wellington online photo competition has been launched by
Wellington City Council.
Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says the competition is about showcasing Wellington and the tournament.
“The Council’s ready for RWC 2011 – the entertainment’s finalised, the infrastructure’s in place and the city’s looking
great – and now we’re challenging locals to add their energy and have some fun. We’ve kept the competition really broad
to let people’s imaginations run wild – we hope to see everything from houses to workplaces to individuals and more,
festooned in decorations.
“The competition is open to the region, as hosting RWC 2011 truly is a regional effort.”
Dressing-up efforts can celebrate the tournament with rugby themes or the visiting nations, or celebrate the arts and
events on display during the Festival of Carnivale. Entrants submit photos of their efforts online for the chance to win
prizes throughout the tournament. There will also be some spot prizes for people who get dressed up for RWC 2011
screenings in the Wellington Town Hall. Prizes include packs of official RWC 2011-branded merchandise.
