Sharing A Love Of Books In Huntly
If reading, sharing and discussing new books in a social environment appeals, Huntly’s new book club is ready to welcome
new members.
Bookchat, an initiative of the Huntly Library was launched three months ago. Members bring along a current book to share
and leave with a challenge book to discuss at the next meeting.
Huntly Library customer delivery team leader Denise Lamb says the challenges to date have included teen fiction and a
choice of New Zealand fiction or non-fiction.
“The challenge books have encouraged the group to read outside the square and the teen fiction challenge was
particularly interesting.
“Some of the group couldn’t get past the first chapter while others thoroughly enjoyed their choice of book and this
resulted in plenty of lively discussion,” she said.
The club intends to be an informal forum where the love of books is foremost and members will be joined by guest
speakers including local authors.
“Simply turn up, with your latest book in hand and be prepared for an informal discussion and good company,” says Ms
Lamb.
The next Bookchat is on 6 September. The group will be joined by New Zealand author David Rushworth who will be
discussing his new novel, “Far from a Carnival”.
Bookchat meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 10.00am in the Riverside Rooms, behind the North Waikato News
office, Main Street, Huntly.
