The top table tennis players from throughout New Zealand will soon be competing at the 2011 KVB Kunlun Auckland Open Table Tennis Championships.
The KVB Kunlun Auckland Open Table Tennis Championships is one of the largest table tennis tournaments in Oceania each year and will be held the weekend of August 27/28.
The elite men’s and women’s open finals will be held at 6.30pm on Saturday August 27 and media are welcome to attend.
Hundreds of athletes are expected to compete in events ranging from junior novice to elite open men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
Auckland Table Tennis Association chief executive, Shane Warbrooke, says with nearly $6000 in prize money and additional prizes the best players from throughout New Zealand will be attending.
“Table tennis players and fans from throughout New Zealand will be in Auckland on August 27/28 to witness players do battle in what is arguably the most fiercely contested tournament of the domestic table tennis season,” Mr Warbrooke says.
“And, a huge thanks must go to our loyal sponsors KVB Kunlun, who have once again provided invaluable financial support to our sport.”
While its headquarters is in Auckland, KVB Kunlun is an international investment and financial services company with expertise in the Asian region.
KVB Kunlun Country Manager Greg Boland says with so many of the company’s customers being of Chinese and Japanese descent, table tennis is an obvious sport for the company to support.
“KVB Kunlun is a major company in the Chinese market and for us supporting a sport like table tennis is a logical extension of our marketing,” Mr Boland says.
“We’ve been around for a while, and it makes sense for KVB Kunlun to start giving back to the country and communities which support us,” he says.
KVB Kunlun also shows its support for New Zealand table tennis through its ongoing sponsorship of some of the country’s top young players, like Auckland professional player, Kevin Wu.
