Sportsgrounds to get a spruce up before summer
Next month Hutt City Council will begin its annual work to rejuvenate turf at sportsgrounds across the city.
The work includes fertilising, laying fresh soil and sowing grass seed to repair winter damage to playing surfaces.
Council's sportsgrounds manager Aaron Marsh says tending to the playing surfaces now will ensure there is plenty of lush
grass for people to play and picnic on in summer.
"We also want to make sure we keep the grounds in top shape for the following winter sport season."
While the rejuvenation work is happening the grounds will be closed to organised and casual sporting events and closure
signs will be displayed.
"During the initial seed laying and grow time we need people to respect the closures as it's important we keep large
groups of players off the grounds, but individuals and small groups wanting to picnic are still welcome."
The work is expected to take 8 to 10 weeks.
