Posted On: Thursday, 18 August 2011
Hamilton City Youth Council will be showcased at the New Zealand Diversity Forum next week.
The Diversity Forum, to be held at Claudelands, is an annual event jointly hosted by the New Zealand Human Rights Commission and the Hamilton Multicultural Services Trust.
The Forum’s goal is to encourage people to get involved in race relations and human rights issues, celebrate cultural diversity, and share ideas and good practice.
The Forum emphasises practical action, with Council’s team nominated to host a workshop on Youth Development and Participation. The team’s workshop will include profiling the Hamilton City Youth Council, discuss ideas and examples on successful ways of engaging young people, and ways to plan events and projects.
“There are some great young people with real leadership qualities on our Youth Council. And my team are really excited about the chance to share some of our experiences and ideas, and connecting with other people who work with the nation’s youth,” said Olly Te Ua, Community Development Unit Manager.
The Youth Development Team’s workshop starts at 3.30pm on Monday, August 22.
