Last Chance For Buller Volunteers
There's just two weeks until nominations close for the TrustPower Buller Community Awards, and organisers have their fingers crossed for a last minute rush.
Nominations for the TrustPower Buller Community Awards close on Wednesday 31 August. The TrustPower Community Awards are run in conjunction with the Buller District Council to recognise and reward the work of voluntary groups and organisations.
So far 14 nominations have been received for the TrustPower Community Awards. Last year organisers received 33 nominations and TrustPower Community Relations Coordinator Pip Tschudin says they are hoping for a similar result this year.
"There are hundreds of voluntary groups working for the good of the Buller region and I really want to encourage the Buller public to get out and make sure these volunteers get the recognition they deserve, by nominating them for the TrustPower Community Awards," says Mrs Tschudin.
"From the volunteers at the local St John station to the mums and dads who freely give their time to be part of their local sports club, volunteers play a vital role in every part of community life. This is the once-a-year chance to ensure these community superstars get the recognition they deserve," says Mrs Tschudin.
Anyone can nominate a voluntary group or organisation for the TrustPower Buller Community Awards - voluntary groups can even nominate themselves. The awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Educational and Child/Youth Development.
There is more than $5,000 up for grabs for the winners of the Awards, with the Supreme Winner representing the region at the 2011 TrustPower National Community Awards, being held in March 2012.
"It will take just five minutes of your time to nominate a voluntary group for the TrustPower Buller Community Awards but it will make a huge difference to the volunteers you are recognising," says Mrs Tschudin.
Nomination Forms for the TrustPower Community Awards are available from the Buller District Council offices or service centres or can be downloaded from or completed online at www.trustpower.co.nz/communityawards.
Nominations close on Wednesday 31 August 2011. The Awards will be announced and presented at an Awards function on Tuesday 25 October 2011.
