Snow Update 16 August 2011
Snow continues to fall in parts of the Selwyn District, adding to the snow that has fallen in the past 48 hours.
Selwyn District Council Chief Executive, Paul Davey, stated that District roads are continually being cleared of snow although road users should continue to exercise caution when driving. Mr Davey also noted that SH 73 from Springfield to Arthurs Pass was currently closed due to snow.
Council water and sewerage services are all operational although the normal refuse collections scheduled for Monday and Tuesday in the District have not occurred. Residents are asked to leave their refuse bins, bags and recycling bins on the roadside this week as contractors will endeavour to collect refuse as road and weather conditions allow.
Some residents may be running short on supplies and Mr Davey asked neighbours to support each other where they could. If a District resident needs further support, they are asked to ring the council where appropriate assistance will be provided.
District libraries, the Rolleston Community and Lincoln Events Centres are also closed on Tuesday due to the snow conditions.
Cold conditions are forecast to continue for a few more days but are gradually improving.
