CCC Media Advisory: Update 12.30 Tuesday 16 August 2011
Council Facilities
Christchurch City Council Sport and Recreation Centres, libraries and other community facilities are closed until further notice. The Council will continue to assess the situation and will advise when they can re-open.
Christchurch City Council Service Centres in Akaroa and Little River are now open.
Kerbside collection
The Council's kerbside collection in Christchurch is on hold for today due to snow build-up. Collection is expected to begin again tomorrow morning, but is dependant on weather conditions overnight. Residents are advised to leave their wheelie bins at the kerbside and they will be collected as soon as possible.
Collections went ahead today in Akaroa.
Roads
Hill areas remain closed to motorists.
Crews continue to work to clear arterial roads, and expect to have these clear later this evening. Work has started on Dyers Pass Road. However, it is not expected to be open until some time tomorrow. The clearing of roads in hill suburbs will be a priority for crews tomorrow.
Roads are still hazardous. The Council advises motorists to travel only if essential and to watch out for surface flooding as the snow melts.
