Update from Christchurch Airport for 11am

Update from Christchurch Airport for 11am

While some flights are managing to arrive and depart from Christchurch International Airport - it is essential passenger check with their Airlines before commencing their travel.

There is 3mm of slush across the main runway, which is being regularly graded.

The airport remains OPEN but all aircraft movements remain at the discretion of the Airlines.

A Jetstar flight to Sydney has just departed and Air New Zealand flights also managed to get flights away to Melbourne and Brisbane this morning.

There have been some domestic inbound arrivals.

A Singapore Airlines flight was diverted to Auckland but has been rescheduled to arrive in Christchurch 12.50pm.

There have been no domestic flights out...largely because of a large amount of inbound aircraft not arriving.

There are occasional breaks in the weather and the snow on the ground is not as heavy as was experienced during the last event.

Christchurch International Airport has been preparing for this eventuality since last Wednesday, since it was first notified of the likelihood of snow.

This has included increased equipment and resource as well as utilising our own Four Wheel Drive vehicles and staff and the Christchurch Four Wheel Drive Club to collect staff to ensure their safe arrival and departure from the workplace.
