Reminder from WBOP Police re Winter Driving Conditions
Police are asking all drivers to take extra care with the current cold snap upon us. Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Holmes of the Western Bay of Plenty Road Policing unit said that road conditions and visibility can change very quickly.
Mr Holmes said that light snow is currently falling near the top of the Kaimai Summit and also warned drivers using SH36 Pyes Pa and SH33 Paengaroa to Rotorua to use extreme care as they may be confronted with similar conditions.
Drivers need to reduce their speed and increase their following distances and drive with headlights on. MR Holmes urged all drivers to take extreme care as the risk of losing control in the slippery conditions was high.
