Navy assisting Police in marine search for missing kayaker Cameron Millar
A marine search has continued over the weekend for missing kayaker 19 year old Cameron Millar.
Officer in charge of the search Acting Sergeant Anthony Harmer says the Police National Dive Squad and the Wellington
Police Maritime Unit, with Lady Liz IV, spent yesterday conducting a marine search and have today been joined by Navy
officers with sonar equipment.
"The Navy began their search at around 7:30am this morning, accompanied by Police divers and Lady Liz IV. The Navy's
sonar equipment was deployed for several hours, however sadly they have failed to find any trace of Cameron Millar at
this stage."
The 19 year old was last seen by his companion near Ward Island on Wednesday 10 August, who contacted Police around 6pm.
Acting Sergeant Harmer says a further marine search will continue tomorrow, with the assistance of the Navy.
