Snow: Drive to the Conditions - Christchurch
In light of the forecasted snow over the next few days, Canterbury Police are urging all road users to assess their local road conditions prior to any travel.
"We are asking the public to stay at home and delay all non-essential travel if they do not think they can travel safely in their local conditions," says Inspector Al Stewart, Canterbury Road Policing Manager.
People working for emergency and essential services should turn up to work as usual where they can do so safely.
"We had a great response from road users during the snow a fortnight ago, and we need that common sense approach to travel to continue in anticipation that we may find ourselves in a similar situation over the next few days," says Inspector Stewart.
Police are urging road users that do drive, to drive to the conditions and continually reassess the state of the roads they are travelling on and decide whether or not it is safe to continue.
