Mobile site to point Rugby fans in right direction
Visitors here for Rugby World Cup 2011 can throw themselves into Auckland’s social scene between games thanks to a new mobile site.
The site -- m.auckland2011.com -- is a streamlined version of the website, auckland2011.com. The mobile site is compatible with most smartphones.
Using global positioning system technology in the handset, the mobile site allows users to find events and attractions going on near their location using a map-based function.
Ben Rose, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development Marketing Manager, expects visitors’ demand for up-to-the-minute information while on the move during the Tournament will be high.
“Many of our overseas visitors will have smartphones and are very technology savvy. We have developed a user-friendly mobile site that allows people to discover the best that Auckland has to offer,” says Rose.
“As well as information on events and attractions, you can find how to get to places using public transport and post updates on Facebook and Twitter.”
The features on m.auckland2011.com are:
• List of events and attractions at venues around
Auckland
• Restaurant and bar guide
• GPS
functionality to find events and attractions
• Walking
and driving directions using Google maps
• Capability
to update Twitter and Facebook accounts
• Text and
email alerts on events and attractions
Those without smartphones can go online to check out what’s happening in Auckland. Visit auckland2011.com.
