Search for missing kayker continuing into the night
A search for a missing kayaker, last seen close to Ward Island, near Eastbourne is continuing into the night.
Police received a call at around 6:10pm this evening, from a person who was one of two kayakers, to report that they had become separated from their companion, a 19 year old man.
A kayak, believed to belong to the missing kayaker, was located earlier this evening on the shore, about six kilometres from Ward Island, in the Pencarrow area.
Police Search and Rescue, Wellington Police Maritime Unit, East by West ferry, Coastguard, the airport marine unit, the Westpac Rescue helicopter and Land Search and Rescue (Land SAR) volunteers are currently conducting aerial, marine and shoreline searches.
