Search underway for missing kayaker
A search is currently underway for a missing kayaker, last seen close to Ward Island, near Eastbourne.
Police received a call at around 6:10pm this evening, from a person who was one of two kayakers, to report that they had become separated from the other kayaker.
An extensive aerial, water and shoreline search has begun, including Police Search and Rescue, Wellington Police Maritime Unit and the Westpac Rescue helicopter.
A kayak, believed to belong to the missing 19 year old man, has been located on the shore, about six kilometres from Ward Island, in the Pencarrow area.
Police will release further information when it becomes available.
