School to be rewarded for naming mascot
Dunedin (Tuesday, August 9): The children of Room 1, St Bernadettes School, Dunedin, will be rewarded for naming Dunedin’s Rugby World Cup 2011 school mascot, Lachie Scrummage.
Room 1 won a city-wide school competition to give a name to the mascot featured in the SPIN IT WIDE Dunedin school’s programme.
The 22 children in Mr Gerard Shaw’s class came up with the name Lachie Scrummage, which was selected as the winning entry.
The entire class will travel to Otago Stadium at 1.30pm tomorrow (August 10) for a private tour of the Stadium and a chance to have a kick around on the new turf with Dunedin’s SPIN IT WIDE Ambassadors, John Leslie and Kees Meeuws.
The reward follows the release of the Dunedin SPIN IT WIDE guide for children to the Tournament to all local primary school children last week.
