Two teenagers killed in road crash
Two young women have been killed this afternoon in a road crash in the Manawatu.
The crash happened approximately 1.30pm on Stewart Road, close to the intersection with State Highway 3. At this stage it appears that a Ford vehicle travelling from Sanson towards Feilding lost control, crossed the centreline and collided with a Range Rover travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Ford, aged 17, from Feilding, and her front seat passenger, aged 18, from Sanson, both died at the scene. The 54-year-old man from Palmerston North, who was driving the Range Rover was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway by the Serious Crash Investigation Unit. At this stage there is no suggestion that alcohol was involved.
The names of the two teenagers will not be released until next of kin have been informed. It is possible that this may not be until Monday.
