Be part of our fabulous Petone Carnival 2011!
HVCA is offering a series of four FREE samba drumming workshops to 30 lucky locals....
Run by drumming legend Andreas Lepper, these workshops will prepare you to drum in the LEGEND parade before the fire sculptures kick off in the Petone Carnival. We will parade down the Esplanade surrounded by artwork, costumes and lanterns, creating funky and fabulous samba rhythms.
Andreas is a percussion maestro who will teach this group a fusion combo of two styles from Samba-Reggae, Cuban Comparsa and Samba Batucada.
“These are rhythms used in big yearly parades and drive people to the edge of musical ecstasy - we will be using bass -, snare - and djembe -drums, cymbals, bells (and whistles), shakers (and movers) and other more obscure sound-effects. Part of the sessions will be a "JAM" to bring out the creative and circumspect abilities of our players ... really needed to make a parade-performance interesting and fun.”
All instruments provided, all you have to do is register, turn up and enjoy! If you have your own drum then feel free to bring it along.
You will need to be available for all four classes, and for the Parade (Saturday 10 September @ 6pm). The workshops are for adults from 15 to 100 yrs!
