PCC to Lodge Application for Transmission Gully Link Roads

NEWS RELEASE
4 August 2011

PCC to Lodge Application for Link Roads to Transmission Gully

Mayor Nick Leggett says the Council is pleased that Transmission Gully is a step closer following a meeting of the Council today.

The Council approved two applications to be submitted to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) for designation and Resource Management Act consents for Porirua's link roads to Transmission Gully. These roads will link to the gully route from Porirua's local roading network at the top of James Cook Drive in Whitby and on Warspite Avenue in Waitangirua.

PCC 's applications will be lodged with the EPA later this month alongside the New Zealand Transport Agency's Notice of Requirement and resource consent applications for the Transmission Gully project.

"Porirua has supported and promoted Transmission Gully for many years now so it's exciting to see us taking another step in the process," says Mayor Leggett.

"This road is crucial – not just locally – but as a regional roading network that will provide greater route security and ease congestion for everyone in the Wellington region."

Once the EPA accepts the applications, the Minister for the Environment will decide whether the applications will be referred to a Board of Inquiry or the Environment Court .

Then the public will be given the chance to have their say and Mayor Leggett encourages residents to have their voices heard by making a submission.
