Cancellation of tsunami warning to Auckland
Auckland Civil Defence have been advised that there is no further tsunami risk to Auckland from that occurred at the Kermadec Islands today at 7:03am. However, as a precaution, the Auckland Civil Defence is continuing to monitor the situation.
* Wave activity around New Zealand is expected to continue but to decline in height over the next few hours.
* There is still a likelihood of strong currents in coastal areas.
* Beach areas should now be safe, however people should remain alert for unusual sea activity.
"Today was a timely reminder about the very real need that an emergency can happen at any time and everyone must be prepared," said Auckland Civil Defence Controller Clive Manley.
