Library holding first ever Sunday open day
ROTORUA 05.07.11: For the first time since the 1920s the Rotorua District Library is opening its doors on a Sunday and
locals can expect fun, entertainment, giveaways and prizes.
The library is holding an open day on Sunday 31 July from 10am to 4pm, allowing more people to take advantage of the
event than if it was to be held on a busy week day or Saturday.
Library marketing & promotions officer Sue Heke says the special one-off Sunday event is an excellent opportunity for local families,
whether or not they are already current members, to discover the library.
“The open day will not only showcase all the great resources people can access at the library but there’ll be a whole
lot of activity going on, including a ‘big surprise’ to be revealed on the day.”
The open day will include library tours, teenZown karaoke, quick quizzes, storytellers, face painting, Friends of the
Library book sale, Film Archive previews, and 50% discount on music CDs and DVD rentals. Rotorua’s artist in residence
and a genealogist will also be at the event.
“The library is a happening place and constantly evolving to meet the diverse needs of community. The special day is an
ideal chance for locals to be re-introduced to our modern and up-to-date facility, perhaps changing their perceptions of
what they thought the library might be,” says Mrs Heke.
