Seminar for Soup Kitchen guests on developing emotional intelligence.
Customer service principles help beneficiaries relate well to each other and reduce difficult customer label.

Government agencies could be in for an easier time, at least from some of their clients, following a seminar to be held
at the Aubert Compassion Centre, commonly known as “The Soup Kitchen” in Wellington.
Angela Gordon, activities officer, has recruited John Faisandier, author of an innovative customer service programme,
TUF: Thriving Under Fire, to deliver a free seminar on dealing with emotions in daily life.
“We provide learning opportunities for our guests each month and there is great interest in this topic because our
guests do struggle with communicating at times. The life situations most find themselves in are difficult and many have
never learnt the skills to handle the strong feelings that arise.” Angela said.
“Our staff and a number of volunteers have done the TUF: Thriving Under Fire programme and we have found it very
helpful. The customer service principles of conflict management, coping with stress and empathy training will be very
useful for our guests”.
John Faisandier, who will deliver the programme, said “Everyone can benefit from learning how to deal with difficult
people. Participants will not only related better to one another and their neighbours but will also have more insight
into how it is for staff in government agencies that they deal with.”
The free seminar, which is open to all, will be on Friday, 1 July at 3.15. Aubert Compassion Centre, 132 Tory St,
Wellington.
