Part of Ferry Road to be closed this weekend Ferry Road will be closed between Humphries Drive and Tunnel Road roundabout on Sunday 26 June 2011, between 7am and 6pm to enable smoothing of the entire length of the road. If weather affects the work on Sunday, it will be rescheduled for Monday with a closure between 9am and 3pm.

Council facilities update
* Following engineering checks, Shirley Service Centre and Library and Parklands Library re-opened yesterday. Hornby Library and Riccarton Service Centre re-opened this morning. For further information about which libraries are open, visit http://christchurchcitylibraries.com/News/Alerts/ * Cowles Stadium in Pages Road is closed until further notice following an assessment by engineers this week. Repairs will be made to the building and further checks made before it is re-opened to the public.

* English Park and Sockburn Recreation Centre have re-opened.
* Some sports fields had liquefaction following the 13 June aftershocks and are being assessed. As this happens, fields will be cleared again for opening. This is updated daily at http://www.ccc.govt.nz/cityleisure/recreationsport/sportsgrounds/closures/index.aspx

* Christchurch Botanic Gardens is open. Both the Armagh Street and Riccarton Avenue carparks, Christchurch Botanic Gardens Café and the information centre are open. The entrance next to Canterbury Museum is currently closed but visitors can access the Gardens from Rolleston Avenue via an entrance opposite Hereford Street. The conversatory complex is not currently open to the public.

Volunteer clean up work to continue until July The silt clean up from private properties will continue through until Saturday 9 July. The Farmy Army will stand down today but the Student Volunteer Army and Christchurch City Council contractors will continue the clean up effort.

People who are interested in volunteering to help clean up silt can still do so by reporting to the Canterbury A&P Showgrounds staging area (entrance off Curletts Road) between 7am and 11am each day. Anyone who cannot clear the silt from their property to the road by themselves should request assistance at the website www.sva.org.nz or call the Council call centre on 941 8999 or 0800 800 169 .

All requests are being logged into the same system that Council and students are using to allocate jobs and ensure that those that need help will get it. Volunteers are asked to use their own transport and to wear appropriate footwear and clothing. They should also bring a shovel and, if possible, a wheelbarrow.
