Emperor Penguin's Health Being Monitored
Media Advisory:
* DOC rangers closely monitoring the penguin reported early this morning that there were changes in its behaviour and it is showing signs of possible ill health. Penguin and wildlife specialists are examining the penguin this morning and will advise on the best approach to take from here.
* The weather is very warm for a penguin today with the sun shining on the Kapiti Coast and the Department of Conservation has set up a cordon and shaded the penguin to try to help it cool down
* At present members of the public and the media have restricted access due to the cordon and shading and are able to observe the bird from a distance
We will issue a progress update as soon as we have recieved advice from the specialists.
