design new Central City
The Christchurch City Council is running a 48 Hour Design Challenge the weekend of 2 and 3 July providing an opportunity for the design and architecture industry to contribute to the Central City Plan.
Twenty teams of seven (including one design student on each team) will be tasked with designing the look, functionality and use of a specific part of the Central City.
Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker says the weekend Challenge is aimed at stimulating discussion and ideas amongst talented design professionals.
“This is a great way for us to get input from people who have experience with city design, and then feed what they come up with through to Council staff developing the Central City Plan.”
The participants will receive guidelines such as keeping to national building codes, incorporating green spaces, considering people and how they will interact with the space, transportation constraints, and building use.
Teams will be handed their briefs, including the piece of the Central City they have been assigned to redesign, at midday Friday 1 July and will have until midday Sunday 3 to produce their best design concept for their area.
The Challenge is being held at Lincoln University and is a Share an Idea initiative.
