New quakes show more cash is needed
This week’s earthquakes in Christchurch highlight why TelstraClear’s BANDS 4 HOPE wristband fund-raising is continuing apace, says chief executive Allan Freeth.
“With the help of the great people of New Zealand, we’re aiming to raise $1 million for the people of Christchurch and we’re on the home stretch. Monday’s earthquakes, the damage they’ve done, and the effect on the people of Christchurch are a dreadful reminder that fellow Kiwis continue to need the help and support of us all.”
BANDS 4 HOPE began after the February earthquakes as a TelstraClear initiative to support the city, where many of its customers and staff live.
“Christchurch has always been – and will always be – an important part of the TelstraClear story. When our customers and staff are affected, the whole company feels it. We funded BANDS 4 HOPE so others could join us in showing support. We’re delighted at the response, with more than $600,000 raised already, thanks to the generosity of Kiwis everywhere, and the commitment New Zealand Post Shop Kiwibank stores all over the country have put into promoting BANDS 4 HOPE.”
Prince William is just one of the many celebrities who have worn BANDS 4 HOPE since they went on sale. Others include US musician Donavon Frankenreiter, Prime Minister John Key, rock band Midnight Youth, and Packed to the Rafters stars Rebecca Gibney, Camille Keenan, Angus McClaren, Zoe Cramond and Zoe Ventoura.
BANDS 4 HOPE ambassador, media personality and Christchurch local, Simon Barnett, says that knowing others care and are doing what they can to help makes a big difference.
“When you’re here, with the earth shaking, buildings swaying and creaking, possessions falling, and your friends and family often scared and worried, it’s tough. We’re Kiwis so we get up and get on with life, fixing the things that need fixing. But we can’t do it alone. We need help, and BANDS 4 HOPE is one little but important way of us getting that help.”
Allan Freeth says TelstraClear is committed to raising at least $1 million for the people of Christchurch.
“It matters because the people matter.”
BANDS 4 HOPE wristbands are available in red or black from participating New Zealand Post Kiwibank stores for a donation of $5 or more, at www.bands4hope.co.nz, or online through the BANDS4HOPE Facebook page, which has more than 10,000 ‘likes’ including Prime Minister John Key and musician Gin Wigmore.
All money raised goes to the Christchurch Mayoral Fund. All costs associated with producing the bands are being covered by TelstraClear.
