Nick Dallimore appointed to Rotorua District Council economic projects role

ROTORUA 09.06.11: Rotorua District Council has reviewed its economic development structure following the departure of former economic development manager Grant Kilby, and has appointed Nick Dallimore to the new position of Manager Economic Projects

In announcing new appointments RDC Economic & Regulatory Services Group Manager Mark Rawson signalled a shift in the way local economic development activities are to be approached with a greater focus given across all departments within the council’s Economic & Regulatory Services Group. He said a realignment of activities would see each department having an economic development focus within their day-to-day operations.

Nick Dallimore will head the newly formed Economic Projects department. As the name suggests it will concentrate on special economic projects in the district, some with a 12 to 24 month action focus and others with more long term objectives. Mark Rawson said this means increased attention to projects with the potential to specifically enhance or stimulate Rotorua’s economic growth.

Areas the new department will focus on include the CBD implementation programme and the recently announced incentive package for attracting CBD development. Mr Dallimore will be the initial point of contact and internal RDC co-ordinator for developers and other stakeholder inquiries.

Economic Projects department activities will also be aligned to support the new Sustainable Economic Growth Strategy currently being developed for Rotorua by a partnership involving the council and local business community.

Meanwhile Chris Heywood has been appointed as Projects Advisor for the new department. Mr Heywood and contract managers will coordinate a range of projects that contribute to the local economy, including the National Cycleway, Grow Rotorua Development Fund, Film Rotorua, Settlement Support, and business initiatives associated with the Forestry Expo and Rugby World Cup 2011.
