Registrations for Petone Carnival now open

HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE

7 JUNE 2011

Registrations for Petone Carnival now open

Hutt City Council is calling for interest from stallholders, food vendors, and entertainment providers for this year’s Petone Carnival.

Now in its fifth year the Carnival has become a staple event on the Lower Hutt calendar, attracting more than 40,000 people to the Petone Foreshore for an afternoon and evening of fun, low-cost family entertainment.

Scheduled for the slightly warmer date this year of 10 September to coincide with the REAL New Zealand Festival, the Carnival is set to feature giant inflatables, sculptures, carnival rides, performances, food, and more.

Capping off a great day out will be an impressive fireworks display off the Petone Wharf.

Council’s major events coordinator Thomas Buchanan is excited about introducing new additions to the event, as well as bringing back crowd favourites.

“This year we have added a market aspect to the Carnival, and we’re inviting experienced stallholders from Lower Hutt and further afield to apply to take part.

“We’re also expanding the area we are using, giving us more room for activities, and more entertainment options.

“We are open to suggestions from the public, and would love for those who are interested in being involved in any way to contact us and tell us about what they want to do,” he says.

Registrations of interest are now open, and details can be found on www.petonecarnival.co.nz.
