Men needed for World Cup entertainment
ROTORUA 03.06.11: Rugby World Cup 2011 will see many men taking to Rotorua International Stadium’s number one ground to entertain fans with some hard-hitting world class rugby action.
However more men are required to entertain fans throughout the city during the Rugby World Cup period.
‘Rotorua Entertains’ is a Rotorua District Council coordinated programme offering free workshops in stilt walking, samba percussion, face painting and salsa, as the city gears up to host visitors from around New Zealand and from throughout the globe. But one question remains - where are all the men?
Rotorua District Council community arts officer Kiri Jarden says over 60 locals have already taken up the opportunity to learn something new and a little different from their regular skills, but they are mostly women so far.
“Sixty participants is a fantastic turn-out to date but what we’d like to have more of, in particular at the salsa classes, is men.
“While dancers can learn the moves on their own it would be fabulous to get the dynamic that comes together when salsa is danced in pairs. Come on you guys, let’s hear from you.”
Anyone interested in developing skills in salsa, stilting or samba can register for the next set of free workshops – salsa on 9 June, and samba percussion and stilting on 11 June – by emailing rotoruaentertains@rdc.govt.nz or by phoning Kiri Jarden at Rotorua District Council on 351 8154.
