Life Flight’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter responded to two separate motorcycle accidents in the Wellington Region today
Just before 10am today the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic on board, was called to St Hwy 2 near the summit of the Rimutaka Hill where a 63 year old Linden (Porirua) man was injured when he fell off his motorcycle. The man is believed to have been traveling at a relatively low speed when the accident occurred.
The Helicopter was able to land at the Summit.
The patient was suffering from chest injuries.
At around 2:20 this afternoon the Westpac
Rescue Helicopter was called to St Hwy 58 at Judgeford for
another motorcycle accident.
The helicopter landed near the scene and two Wellington Free Ambulance paramedics treated the 22 year old Wellington man for what is believed to be very serious head injuries. The paramedics had to perform an advanced skill called Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) which allowed them to put a breathing tube down the injured mans throat.
Both patients were flown to
Wellington Hospital Emergency Department.
