Freeona and the Westland Council Wanderers
Air New Zealand has two rental cars available for free. All you need to do is register interest on the website.
Two hybrid Toyota vehicles named Jefree and Freeona are available for free, one in the North Island and one in the South Island. If Freeona and Jefree are heading your way you might be lucky enough to secure one for up to seven days.
This week Freeona has been taken for a familiarisation tour of South Westland by Mayor of Westland, Maureen Pugh and Westland District Councillors.
Councillors have spent the last few days travelling in South Westland visiting community facilities and council assets. Freeona has seen scenic wonders in Glacier Country at Franz Josef and Fox as well as other infrastructure that isn't normally visited by the public or tourists.
Freeona has taken the world heritage highway to scenic wonders as far south as Jackson Bay and to council assets that make life easier for the people who live, work and play in Westland like water and sewage treatment plants and community libraries.
Mayor Maureen Pugh said "Westland is the longest district geographically in New Zealand. This was a great opportunity to introduce three new Councillors to the assets and issues that affect South Westland. We loved driving Freeona in the last best place in New Zealand and she handled like a dream."
Freeona has been handed over to Karen Prendergast who is travelling to Dunedin for the weekend with her daughters.
