Not All Good for Everyone
National Council of Women NZ (NCWNZ) recognises the difficulty within the budget for many New Zealanders however we are pleased to hear that new money will go into Health, Education and Justice.
NCWNZ has had a keen interest in early childhood both through education and health says Elizabeth Bang, National President. It is pleasing to note therefore, that two areas we are constantly aware of are Maternity Services and early childhood education will receive new money from this budget. This is a beginning.
The provision of new funding of $157 million over the next two years to be received by the Justice Sector ensuring access to the justice system is increased for public safety is also heartening.
Working for Families should continue Elizabeth Bang says and the changes will continue to benefit the largest group of qualifying families while others will have implementation in 2012. We urge the Government to keep this more sustainable in the long term.
Kiwi Saver will affect both employees and employers and this may well affect wage increases again this next financial year. NCWNZ supports New Zealanders being encouraged to save for retirement and feel this move will discourage many low income workers from contributing.
The recovery for families in the Canterbury region is enormous and stability for families is essential.
