Biodiesel New Zealand establishes Nelson distribution hub
16 May 2011 - Biodiesel New Zealand is establishing a bulk distribution facility in Nelson to supply upper South Island
customers with both its Biogold™ NZ20 renewable fuel blend and Biogold™ NZ100 pure biodiesel.
General Manager Andrew Simcock says demand from customers in the region is growing strongly and the new fuel storage and
dispensing facility, being established at Fulton Hogan’s Port Nelson property, will allow the company’s distribution
partners, Allied Petroleum and Mini-Tankers, to service the commercial “delivered-to-tank” market. More than 80
commercial customers in the region have expressed an interest in using the fuel and feedback from a recent
EECA-organised information seminar indicates Nelson has a large motivated group promoting positive environmental change.
“Fulton Hogan is a key partner,” Mr Simcock says. “They have been running trials of our Biogold™ fuel across a range of
equipment and we are very pleased to take up their offer to host this facility at their Nelson site. This is not a
direct-to-customer outlet but will ensure supply to Biogold fuel commercial customers in the region with a
delivered-to-tank option via Allied Petroleum and Minitankers.”
Biodiesel New Zealand Ltd is a renewable energy business of resources company Solid Energy. It produces high-quality
certified fuel in Christchurch and runs a seed-handling, storage and oil-extraction facility at Rolleston. Biodiesel New
Zealand also operates a national network to collect used cooking oil from food processors and large restaurants and uses
this and a portion of virgin canola oil to make its Biogold™ biodiesel. The company contracts with farmers to grow
canola crops.
Biogold™ biodiesel is used by businesses and organisations in transport, marine, industrial and heating applications.
Customers include fleet operators, transport operators, tourism businesses, fishing businesses, contracting companies,
councils, education and health organisations, manufacturers, and farmers. The bulk of biodiesel distributed around
Nelson is expected to be Biogold™ NZ20 sold via Allied Petroleum and Mini-Tankers. Biodiesel New Zealand supplies pure
Biogold™ NZ100 direct and, for any customers interested in converting to Biodiesel would carry out a thorough technical
assessment of the requirements and ensure a tailored commercial proposal is presented prior to any deliveries.
