Paper Plus and Take Note customers come together for Christchurch and its children
Throughout the month of March, Paper Plus and Take Note customers from across the nation donated an unbelievable 36,000 books to the children affected by the Canterbury earthquake. The Paper Plus Group partnered with charity Duffy Books in Homes to distribute the new and pre-loved books through local schools.
“We are pleased to announce that through the book drive, we have collected an incredible quantity of books for the children of Christchurch. Books are an important part of the lives of all kiwi kids. We are extremely grateful for the generosity of our customers helping those children who may currently be without their favourite books,” says Paper Plus Group Marketing Manager, Lyle Hastings.
From the 9th of May, the 36,000 books began their journey to 34 schools across the city, delivered free of charge thanks to the support of Mainfreight. The presentations are already happening with local Paper Plus store owners and Duffy Books in Homes role models such as Dallas and Julie Seymour and Linda Vagana teaming up to give the books away.
In addition to the book drive, the Paper Plus Group is also proud to support the New Zealand Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal and today at Spreydon School in Christchurch donated a total of $150,156 to the charity.
Customers at Paper Plus and Take Note donated $100,156 to help the people of Christchurch get back on their feet. “We were delighted by our customer’s generosity and willingness to donate through our stores and will be pledging an additional $50,000 to the Red Cross. That brings the grand total to just over $150,000 to help our fellow Cantabrians.”
Like the rest of New Zealand, we have been devastated by the affects of the February 22 earthquake in Christchurch,” adds Hastings. “We hope this contribution – both monetary and in the form of books - helps in a small way towards the rebuilding of Christchurch.”
