Leisurely ActivitiesWednesday 4 May
With winter well on the way, Downtown Community Ministry (DCM) service users are signing up for Leisure Cards so they can enjoy indoor activities at a discounted rate.
“The Leisure Cards are a great way for those who can’t normally afford to go along to the swimming pool, or rent DVDs from the library to have activities to do in the colder months, as well as promoting healthy lifestyle options,” says David Manuel, community project worker at DCM.
“One of the best things about the Leisure Cards is that they can be used as Photo ID at some places. For many of our people this is a huge issue because they don’t have a drivers licence or passport,” says David.
The sign-up process can be done at DCM, where photos are taken and sent into the Council. A few weeks later, the cards arrive. The whole process is free.
Leisure Cards are discount cards which are produced by Wellington City Council (WCC), offering reduced prices for many activities around the city. The cards are available to those with Community Services Cards, those on an Invalid or Sickness benefit, recent migrants, SuperGold Cardholders and City Housing tenants.
The cards give a range of discounts on a range of WCC facilities. More information on the sign up process, who is eligible and the discounts offered can be found at: www.wellington.govt.nz/eventsrec/recreation/support/discounts/discounts.html
