Main Outfall Pipeline Repair
Hutt City Council is carrying out repairs to a failed joint in the main outfall pipeline on the Pencarrow Coast.
This pipeline runs from the Seaview Wastewater Treatment Plant to the Pencarrow Head outfall. It is a vital component of the Hutt Valley and Wainuiomata wastewater system as all treated wastewater is pumped through this pipe.
The repair work will include draining the section of the pipe south of Burdans Gate, entering the pipe to prepare the surface, and then placing internal seals at the leaking joint. This will require diverting treated effluent from the Seaview plant to the overflow pipe in the lower Waiwhetu Stream for about five days while the repair work is undertaken.
