Major fundraiser a wonderful success

Major fundraiser a wonderful success

A glass of chilled bubbles and a perfect, sunny Wairarapa day greeted diners at the Breadcraft Long Lunch on Sunday.

Just on 300 people joined us under the big marquee at Copthorne Solway Park, Masterton. Executive Chef Paul Condron and his team served a delicious five course meal, showcasing locally grown (or caught) food. Crayfish, prime beef, free range chicken, specialty cheeses and infused olive oils featured.

Our major sponsor, family-owned Breadcraft from Masterton, generously supported us again this year. We were very fortunate to enjoy their range of specialty breads, Cottage Lane, as part of the menu.

Smooth operator, Mr Frankie Stevens, was the MC for the day and entertained us with fantastic ballads and an endless stream of jokes. A wonderful moment was when one of the auction winners had Frankie sing that time-honoured kiwi standard Ten Guitars! It was fantastic.

Local songstress, Tess OHara also entertained us with party favourites and had us on our feet dancing.

Fifteen auction items, from diamonds to flights in Tiger Moths to beautiful garden sculptures, went under the hammer and the Tui girls made an appearance and sold hundreds of raffle tickets - mostly to the blokes. Funny that. These two activities returned a cool $25,000. We are overwhelmed and thrilled with the generous support.

On behalf of the Board, Chairman, Bob Francis, thanked all our generous donors and sponsors - artists, businesses and individuals. With support like this we can continue the excellent care and development at Pukaha.
