No V8s for Hamilton
The Republic of New Zealand Party’s candidate for Hamilton East, Jack Gielen, wants no more V8 racing in the streets.
“The ratepayers have been ripped off for tens of millions by cowboys on the Council encouraged by business thieves,” he said
Hamiltonians were never asked if they wanted this disruption in their city. They should have been asked through a Binding Local Initiative, Mr Gielen said
A Binding Local Initiative is about asking rate payers to approve expenditure on a project that is not a core service.
“Boy racers don’t need further excitement to kill and maim. We need hybrid vehicles that are eco friendly and fuel efficient.”
Mr Gielen said the new Mayor, Julie Hardaker, has reneged on her promise to limit the V8s.
“They should be at Hampdon Downs,” he said.
Republic of New Zealand Party Policy is to have Binding Local Initiatives, where important issues are put to ratepayers as is done in Switzerland.
Republican Greenpak policy is to develop bio-fuels and hybrid vehicle technology.
