Collecting for a Cause
Wednesday 23 March
The Rugby World Cup’s impact has spread to the Downtown Community Ministry (DCM) Bookfair.
“With Rugby World Cup fever hitting Wellington in September, the Bookfair has been shifted to the much earlier date of
July 23-24 to fit in with this event,” says Jennifer Stewart, communications and events coordinator at DCM.
“Collection bins will be dropped off at locations around the city early next week marking the start to another busy and
exciting bookfair period”, says Jennifer.
As well as the collection bins around the city, DCM will be out and about in our van collecting books from people and
businesses who have too many books to drop off at the collection points, or are located too far away.
Once the collecting begins, the biggest task of the whole fair starts at our warehouse. Each Saturday morning, and
during the week, a group of volunteers get together to sort out the thousands of books that are donated.
“The books all have to be sorted into their correct categories and boxed up, so come the weekend of the Bookfair, they
can all be laid out easily, and people can find what they are after”, says Jennifer.
The Bookfair is DCM’s biggest fundraiser each year, and goes towards funding our services and projects.
This year, collection bins will be located at the following places:
• Aro Valley Community Centre
• Johnsonville Uniting Church
• Karori Community Centre
• Kilbirnie Citizen’s Advice Bureau
• Newtown Community Centre
• St Andrew’s on the Terrace
• St Anne’s Catholic Church
• St John’s in the City
• St Ninian’s Uniting Church
• St Paul’s Cathedral
• St Peter’s on Willis
• Wadestown Presbyterian Church
• Wellington City Council
• Wesley Methodist Church
