Mayor Gives Tui Campaign Thumbs Up!
Auckland Mayor Len Brown has given a cheeky Tui billboard his trademark thumbs up.
Tui recently installed a billboard opposite the Ellerslie train station in Auckland which reads, “Hey, I saw Len Brown on the train today – Yeah Right”.
The Mayor was actually travelling by train to work when he first saw the billboard and began tweeting about it. He says fellow passengers gave him a friendly ribbing when they also spotted the sign.
“I thought it was very funny,” says Len Brown. “It’s important to have a good sense of humour and that is what the Tui campaign is all about. Making people laugh. Even if they are laughing at me!”
Tui marketing manager Jarrod Bear says he was delighted with the response from the Mayor to their billboard.
“We’ve had the odd politician who hasn’t had the same sense of humour as the Mayor. It’s great that he can see the funny side of the billboard and not take himself too seriously.”
The billboard message refers to controversy over the Mayor’s decision to take the train to work on a regular basis.
“Fixing Auckland’s transport system is something I’m heavily focused on”, says Len Brown. “Projects like integrated ticketing, electrification and the Auckland Rail Tunnel are needed to provide Aucklanders and visitors alike with greater transport options.”
The Mayor is also pushing walking, cycling, ferries and school transport plans as alternatives to stop the gridlock on Auckland’s roads.
In the meantime, he has a friendly reminder from Tui about city transport to hang on his Mayoral wall
