Notice of Voluntary Product Recall

25 March 2011

Notice of Voluntary Product Recall

The Warehouse has announced a nationwide recall of all ‘Hippo + Friends Sleepwear Essentials’ infant flannelette pyjamas (sizes 00 to 2½)* purchased between 24 January 2011 and 18 March* 2011. The pyjamas have also been voluntarily withdrawn from all stores.

The recall follows independent assessment of the garment’s button attachments, after a customer informed The Warehouse that their child was able to pull a button off their new pyjamas.

Customers should check the tags of any infant flannelette pyjamas purchased from The Warehouse during this time period – if branded ‘Hippo + Friends Sleepwear Essentials’ (sizes 00 to 2 ½) children should stop wearing them. The pyjamas should also be put out of children’s reach, as a precautionary measure.

To avoid any safety risks, customers are asked to return the recalled pyjamas to any of The Warehouse’s 89 stores for a refund, with or without a receipt. No other pyjamas are being recalled or withdrawn.

The Warehouse has been working with New Zealand’s leading apparel rework company, Apparel Solutions, to check the pyjamas in question for faulty button attachments.

Andrea Kenworthy, GM of Head to Toe & Home at The Warehouse, said today, “The safety of our customers is paramount, and the garment was immediately withdrawn from all stores. 1,000 sample units have been sent for independent assessment. Garment checks are ongoing, but to avoid any potential risk to children, we have decided to recall the pyjamas and encourage customers to return them as soon as possible.

“We reassure our customers that no other pyjamas sold at The Warehouse pose a safety risk. We are taking all necessary measures to recall this specific shipment of ‘Hippo + Friends Sleepwear Essentials’ branded pyjamas, and are working with the supplier concerned to ensure customer safety.”

Customers can free-call The Warehouse Customer Care Team on 0800 422 274 between 8:00am and 5.30pm (Monday to Friday), if they require any additional information.
