‘Culinary Master’ Joins Botswana Butchery
Queenstown’s most stylish dining experience, Botswana Butchery, welcomes a new and creative Head Chef to its kitchen this month.
Chris Bindon – a well-respected culinary master in the region - joins the popular lakefront restaurant and bar with a stellar 16-year career behind him, having worked across all elements of the hospitality industry.
His dedication, passion and experience for the business follows six years helping to establish and run Gibbston Valley’s The Winehouse & Kitchen, owned by local entrepreneur Henry Van Asch.
During this time Chris held positions of Head Chef and Manager and quickly gained a glowing reputation for his hearty and healthy cuisine, perfectly matched with wines. In 2008 The Winehouse was named a finalist for ‘Cuisine Restaurant of the Year,’ as was Botswana Butchery in 2009 and 2010.
Chris’s love for food and cooking originates from his childhood on an avocado and dairy farm in Whangarei, where he enjoyed experimenting at family mealtimes with new flavours and presentation. He went on to develop his interest by studying Hospitality at Northland Polytechnic and has since worked in many different aspects of the catering trade around New Zealand.
Chris said his confidence and experience working both front and back of house put him in good stead for his new position at Botswana Butchery.
“I’m really looking forward to working with its expansive seasonal menu,” he said.
“Botswana is very well-known for its fun-dining, not frilly fine-dining, and what stands out to me is the sheer size and variety of its menu.
“If you consider that it touches on so many flavours and styles, if a couple visiting Queenstown for a week were to come back again and again they could dine completely differently each night.
“But what I admire most about Botswana is that it prides itself on serving delicious food in a relaxing, welcoming setting. I enjoy that its food is sourced locally and reflects the tastes of the season and look forward learning and teaching new dishes using Botswana’s selection of locally sourced fresh produce.”
Botswana Butchery Queenstown is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, between noon and 11pm (last orders will be taken as late as 11pm). Reservations are recommended
