Skycity Pleased Plans For Federal Street
Progressing
SKYCITY Entertainment Group has welcomed a recommendation by the Auckland Council’s Planning and Urban Design Forum, to explore its planned transformation of Federal Street further.
SKYCITY has dedicated $10m towards an upgrade of Federal Street to include several more bars and restaurants, cafes and retail outlets. Three new signature bars and restaurants will be open before Rugby World Cup in September.
SKYCITY CEO Nigel Morrison says this will transform Federal Street into a vibrant destination that will revitalise the central business district.
“We are pleased with the Urban and Planning Forum’s decision and we’re looking forward to working with the Auckland Council, the Waitemata local board and the wider Auckland public, to deliver an enhanced inner city destination.
“Federal Street is the gateway to SKYCITY, the five star SKYCITY Grand Hotel, dine by Peter Gordon and the Sky Tower, one of Auckland’s most visited landmarks. Millions of people, including important international guests and dignitaries visit the area every year but it is currently not up to world-class standards.
“We want to transform the area into a shared public space that is people friendly; where you can gather and enjoy several bars and restaurants in the CBD and, potentially below a magnificent piece of artwork that will house an extension to our current conference centre.”
SKYCITY is working with a leading group of consultants on the project including Moller Architects, Boffa Miskall, Barker and Associates and Transurban Ltd.
