Hamilton Buildings earthquake strength register
Building earthquake strength register
The public safety of earthquake strength rated buildings in Hamilton is currently of increased public interest following the earthquakes in Christchurch.
Hamilton's geographical positioning means it is considered to be lower-risk and not exposed to the likelihood of a major earthquake. Buildings identified that could be at risk earthquakes are spread across the city, include residential as well as commercial and industrial, and aren't concentrated in a particular area, for example, the CBD.
Also, our CBD does not accommodate 50,000 people like Christchurch and our building stock is a greater mix of modern with fewer older buildings. Hamilton has for the past 30 years implemented processes whereby earthquake upgrading of older buildings has been a significant factor in the refit and redevelopment of at-risk buildings.
Because of the current interest a register of possible earthquake-prone buildings has been published on this webpage: Building earthquake strength register .
For more specific information about any particular building we recommend you make application for a LIM on the property.
