Mitsubishi NZ supports Christchurch earthquake fund
Mitsubishi Motors (MMNZ) has pledged $50,000 to the New Zealand Government’s Christchurch earthquake fund and is
providing further financial assistance to local dealership staff affected by the quake. Staff at the Mizushima
Mitsubishi factory in Kurashiki City (the Japanese sister city of Christchurch) have donated a further $8,000 to the
cause.
MMNZ has also provided seven 4WD vehicles to assist with emergency services and rescue efforts.
Three vehicles are with Wellington Free Ambulance to assist in paramedic transport, two are with Housing New Zealand to
help with assessment of the 6,000 state houses in Christchurch and a further two vehicles are being used by FMG
assessors to expedite insurance payouts.
MMNZ managing director Masao Tanuma issued a company statement announcing the planned aid package yesterday morning.
“We were all upset by harrowing images of the devastation and the tragic loss of life caused by the Christchurch
earthquake on 22 February. Unfortunately our dealership in Christchurch sits within the CBD’s ‘no go’ zone hardest hit
by the quake, we are planning to resume trading once the cordon is lifted and the area is deemed safe,” said Tanuma.
