Leave messages of support for Christchurch

A book has been set up at Hutt City Council for Lower Hutt residents wanting to send messages of solidarity and support to those affected by the Christchurch earthquake.

Mayor Ray Wallace says since the earthquake he has spoken to many people who have expressed their sympathy and support for the people of Christchurch.

"I want to encourage locals to come in and sign the book as it is one way we can share these feelings with the people of Christchurch and reinforce how much we are thinking of them."

The book is available to sign at council's main reception on Laings Road during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

The book will be closed off on Friday 1 April and sent on behalf of the people of Lower Hutt to Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker.

Lower Hutt residents looking to help those affected by Christchurch's devastating earthquake can find all the information they need on Hutt City Council's website huttcity.govt.nz/christchurch

Details on how to make monetary donations and accommodation offers are listed, as well as advice for those wanting to volunteer or donate goods.

Information on Lower Hutt's contribution to the Christchurch rescue effort is also detailed on the site.
