Canterbury Earthquake Response Media Advisory, 0400hrs, Sunday 6 March 2011
Cordon Reduction
• The CBD cordon will be reduced from 8 am this morning and Zones 1 & 2 (pdf 238 kB) will become open to residents, business owners, and property owners with photo ID and proof of address. They can also collect their vehicles if they are in Zones 1 & 2 (pdf 238 kB).
• From 2pm, Zones 1 & 2 are open to the general public to conduct essential business only.
• Restricted access remains in the Red Zone and Zones 3 & 4 (pdf 238 kB).
Community Meetings
• Community Meetings begin today, Sunday 6 March.
• Further meetings will be held on Monday and Wednesday. Detailed information is included at the end of this advisory.
Vehicles
• Vehicles owned by the general public that are in Zones 1 & 2 (pdf 238 kB) can be collected by owners from 2 pm today.
• A plan is currently being prepared to remove vehicles from the Red Zone and Zones 3 & 4 (pdf 238 kB). It is expected information will be released about this on Tuesday the 8th of March.
Recovery Assistance Centres
Recovery Assistance Centres are located at:
• Linwood Community Link – 154 Aldwins Road, Linwood
• Wainoni Aranui Recreation Centre – 31 Hampshire Street, Wainoni
• Parklands Baptist Church – 180 Queenspark Drive, Parklands
• St Faiths Hall – 46 Hawke Street, New Brighton
• Nga Hau e Wha Marae – 250 Pages Road, Aranui
• Shirley Rugby Club – Burwood Park, New Brighton Road, Shirley/Dallington
Two more centres will open on Monday, 7th of March:
• Lyttelton Recreation Centre – 25 Winchester Street, Lyttelton
• Sydenham Community Centre – 23-25 Hutcheson Street, Sydenham
Toilets
• 1201 portaloos have been delivered.
• Chemical toilets continue to be delivered with over 2000 delivered so far.
Silt removal
• 270,168 tonnes of silt has been removed to date.
• Removal of silt is expected to finish today or Monday.
Operation Suburbs
• 70,520 households have been visited. 1334 have been issued with red placards.
